How Can Fibromyalgia be Treated Naturally?

by Dr. Steven Yen

Just because the main cause of Fibromyalgia is still widely unknown, that doesn’t mean that Fibromyalgia and chronic pain doesn’t exist! Believe me, I’ve been working with patients for over 10 years now and they’ll tell you that the pain, fatigue, and fibro fog they deal with is VERY real.

According to a study by the US Department of Health, more than three million people suffer from this invisible illness TODAY. Wow! Plus, Fibromyalgia tends to be more prevalent in females than males. The number of women who have fibro and are 20-55 age group is ten times higher than men of the same age group!

Fibromyalgia is considered a chronic pain condition which is usually characterized by musculoskeletal pain and the main effect of the unpredictable ailment occurs in the form of a deficiency. The deficiency can be regarding a few different aspects of the body.

A person can begin to feel weak because their body is deficient in hormones and specific nutrients. Even more, many people also suffer from toxification in the liver!

I know all of this can sound a little scary but don’t worry, you CAN treat fibromyalgia and chronic pain naturally and safely. Your doctors are usually quick to prescribe pills to MASK the pain and all kinds of surgeries. These things can help some people but they really should be the last thing they try.

Those who suffer from fibromyalgia pain usually experiences problems sleeping. This is because there are neurotransmitters which SHOULD carry message signals from our body to our brain; however, if you suffer from fibro, these neurotransmitters are affected. The hormones are initiated and because of this, there can either be a decrease or an increase in the amount of hormone secretion.

This can be prevented!

The best way to avoid this symptom is through moving and stretching daily. Exercise sounds awful to most people who are suffering from fibromyalgia but believe me, it’s one of the most important things you can do for your body and to relieve pain. Moving and stretching helps the body maintain a healthy flow of blood in your body which will then supply enough oxygen to the organs in your body. By doing this, you’ll help them function properly!

You don’t need to run a marathon (and I don’t want you to) but you do need to begin working up a sweat daily, if you don’t already.

Additionally, make sure you’re eating a healthy and nutritious diet that is free of inflammatory foods. If you continue eating foods which cause inflammation, you’ll feed the fire inside of your body and you won’t experience pain relief. Foods which are vitamin rich (fruits and vegetables) also tend to contain natural sugars and vitamins in your body.

When talking about inflammation, I’m talking about eating foods which are very rich in calories and carbohydrates like refined white flour and sugar.  Things things MUST be avoided because they’re toxic to your body.

Because treating fibromyalgia naturally is a WHOLE BODY process, be sure to take care of yourself emotionally and mentally as well. Excess of workload, anxiety, and stress can also contribute to the daily pain you’re experiencing and by removing these stress factors, you can get rid of some of the pain. You can also help your muscles by massaging your body. Massage can induce secretion of important biochemical products which will actually contribute to the proper function of the cells in your body.

Find ways in which you can wind down and relax at the end of the day. For some of my patients, that’s listening to calming music and for others, it’s picking up their favorite book. Whatever you enjoy, be sure to take time to yourself and do that thing.

Treating fibromyalgia deals with your ENTIRE body, not just ONE aspect of it.

To be able to “easily treat Fibromyalgia naturally” sounds so wonderful, doesn’t it? When I read through this article all I could think of is, whoever put it together obviously does not suffer from Fibro. Eating right and exercising are beneficial for those of us that have this neurological and musculoskelatal disease. But, these things are not going to solve the pain problem. They may help to some degree, but that will vary depending on the day, just as our pain levels vary each day depending on a variety of factors (i.e. stress, exersion, weather). As far as sleep goes, exercising has never helped me be able to get into a deep level of sleep (REM). Rather, I have had to rely on sleeping medication for the past number of years in order to get to sleep at night. Without it, I simply toss and turn and stay in a sort of “twighlight” level of sleep.

Each person with Fibromyalgia has such a different pain experience. One might feel pain constantly all over the body, while another person only feels a little stiff in the mornings but is otherwise fine. It’s difficult to box us in and thus to say that everyone will respond the same to certain therapy or even to eating habits. Without a definative known cause, there isn’t a known solution, merely guesses. However, there are studies currently be done that seem to indicate that Fibromyalgia is a neurological issue.

Oh, and it’s NOT a deadly disease (as incorrectly stated in the first paragraph). Dibilitating, yes, but deadly? Whoever wrote this needs to get their facts straight…and a grammar check wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

I just have to say that this isn’t right. Everyone is so different and things work differently on different people. However one thing that is common with Fibro is that fact that a lot of people have to take meds to sleep. Exercise does nothing but make my anxiety even higher. I try to eat as right as I can but because of IBS and constiputation I am limited to what I eat. This isn’t a fun disease to have at all. It is a very painful one. I have had days even weeks when all I could do was lay in bed and I couldn’t even read or anything because the pain was so bad. I just can’t take it some days. I don’t have the strength or energy to shower or take a bath because it hurts so much. Without the help from my husband I would be lost because I am so forgetful, and sore that I can’t open much of anything. So if you read this article, you will see that the writer doesn’t have fibro and probably doesn’t understand all of what the pain is like, and how bad it can get. I wish everyone with Fibro the best of luck!
